FORT MYERS — Lee Memorial Health System will be helping patients with cognitive issues manage their medications better with a pilot grant from Cardinal Health Foundation.

The $31,500 grant will help the hospital's nurses coach patients with cognitive issues how to manage their medications when they have chronic medical conditions. Cardinal Health is one of the nation's leading distributors of medications and health care supplies.

Cardinal Health has awarded more than $7 million to 249 hospitals to improve patient safety and save hospital costs through the program called E3. One of the goals of this year's programs is to fund projects that will improve patient safety as they move from the hospital back to their homes.

“Cardinal Health has a vested interest in helping health care providers save days, dollars and lives by working collaboratively to improve the quality of care nationwide,” says Dianne Radigan, Cardinal's vice president of community relations, in a statement.
