Women's retailer Chico's FAS may be expanding its online offerings, but it's not giving up on shops even if recent results have been lackluster.
“There are those out there, perhaps some of you among them, to maintain the brick-and-mortar stores are dead, absolute dinosaurs on the brink of extinction,” says David Dyer, Chico's president and CEO, according to a transcript of a recent quarterly earnings call with investors posted on SeekingAlpha.com. “We disagree, we believe that stores will always be a critical and growing part of our business.”
Indeed, the company says it plans to build 70 to 80 new stores in 2015. Chico's operates 1,525 stores under brands Chico's, White House | Black Market, Soma Intimates and Boston Proper.
“We do recognize that there are some challenges, declining mall traffic, changing customer behavior, where how and even why she shops and of course sales and margin pressures. Here at Chico's FAS we prefer to think of all of the above not as threats but as opportunities,” Dyer says.
