FORT MYERS — Sun Country Airlines will be the first airline to provide nonstop jet service to Puerto Rico from Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers.

“I am extremely pleased that Sun Country Airlines is inaugurating nonstop service to San Juan, Puerto Rico in May from Southwest Florida International Airport,” says Robert Ball, executive director of the Lee County Port Authority, in a statement. “One of the Lee County Port Authority's key air service initiatives has been to attract air service to Puerto Rico and these new flights will conveniently link our region to one of the most popular, vibrant travel destinations in the Caribbean.”

The new route will operate on Sundays from May 3 through August 23, with additional service on Thursdays from June 11 through August 20. Introductory fares will cost $129 one way.

“Our business community and residents with family and friends in Puerto Rico will now be able to travel directly from Fort Myers,” says Ball, in a statement. “We are also excited to welcome visitors from Puerto Rico to enjoy our beaches and water sports such as kayaking and fishing, golf and baseball, as well as dining and shopping.”
