Inc. names UT-student startup a 'Coolest'

TAMPA — Beatmerch, a startup company created by University of Tampa student Duncan Abdelnour, has been named one of the Coolest College Startups by Inc. Magazine for 2014. The magazine highlighted a total of 16 startups founded by college students.

Beatmerch is a merchandising company targeted at electronic dance music. It provides on tour merchandise services, e-commerce platforms and puts together creative licensing agreements for artists and brands. Inc. Magazine writes that Beatmerch, which launched in October 2013, is “one of the largest merchandising companies in the electronic music space.”

Abdelnour, of Somers, N.Y., is a senior marketing and entrepreneurship major and a business administration minor.

Two years ago, BetterBoo, a startup created by former University of Tampa Student Government President Nick Chmura, was named one of 19 of the Coolest College Startups by Inc. Magazine for 2012. BetterBoo a Web-based gift giving application closed in early 2013.
