PUNTA GORDA — Punta Gorda Airport posted the largest number of passengers in a single month in February, boosted by service from discount airline Allegiant Air.
A total of 56,001 passengers passed through the airport in Charlotte County in February, a 167% increase compared with the same month one year ago. This was the largest number of passengers in a single month in the airport's history.
The airport's sole carrier, Allegiant Air, now provides nonstop jet service to 23 destinations from Punta Gorda. The airline flies to cities that aren't as well served by major carriers, such as Allentown, Pa., and Toledo, Ohio.
“With the additional flights that Allegiant has added to their schedule, we continue to see the passenger growth to Southwest Florida through Punta Gorda,” says Gary Quill, executive director of the Charlotte County Airport Authority, in a statement.
