ST. PETERSBURG — James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Mina is partnering with lifelong friend, chef and author Don Pintabona to create a specialty market and restaurant. Locale Market is scheduled to open this fall at Sundial, the new shopping and dining complex being developed by The Edwards Group in St. Petersburg.
Modeled after European markets, Locale will feature nearly 20,000 square feet of ingredients and a variety of prepared foods and baked goods. The partners say there will be a conscious effort to balance the more creative cooking items with grounded products for everyday needs.
Customers will be able to choose from meats, seafood, fruits, vegetables, wine, fine cheeses and cooked meats. Locale will also offer a full service delicatessen, wine bar, coffee bar and bakery.
Sharing the space with Locale Market, will be the full-service restaurant, Farmtable Kitchen. The restaurant is described as having “a casual farm-to-table feel” with a selection of Mina's California-inspired cuisine along with Pintabona's Italian flavors.
“St. Petersburg needs a market like Locale — we've got nothing like it,” Sundial owner Bill Edwards, says in a press release. “And Farmtable Kitchen will be a special place to dine. I am so pleased that Michael Mina and Don Pintabona are bringing their passion and talents to St. Petersburg.”
Pintabona studied on three continents, under top chefs: Charlie Palmer and Daniel Boulud in New York City; Georges Blanc in Vonnas, France; and Kiyomi Nishitani in Osaka, Japan. His culinary achievements have been featured in the The New York Times, Gourmet, Bon Appetit, G.Q., Food & Wine and New York Magazine, among others. He has also appeared in more than 100 television cooking segments.
