NAPLES — Car-rental giant Hertz named Brian MacDonald, former chairman, president and CEO of Sunoco, to run its equipment rental unit.
MacDonald will replace Lois Boyd as CEO of Hertz Equipment Rental Corp., according to a release. Boyd plans to retire at the end of the month. One of MacDonald's chief tasks, according to the firm, will be to lead a transition at Hertz Equipment Rental Corp. from a Hertz unit to a new and separate publicly traded company. That transition, the release states, is expected to close by early 2015.
MacDonald joined Sunoco in 2009, first as senior vice president and CFO. He was named president and CEO of the gas refinery business in 2012. MacDonald worked in financial executive roles at Dell and GM before Sunoco, and he also serves on several corporate boards, including Ally Financial.
“Brian MacDonald brings exceptional, executive-level experience in successfully leading major corporations through periods of significant growth and change,” Hertz Chairman and CEO Mark Frissora says in the release. “This record, combined with his financial acumen as well as his operational and international expertise, make him the ideal successor to lead HERC through its next phase of growth and development as a stand-alone, publicly traded company.”
