TAMPA — Not many financial firms would want to pair “gaming” and “financials” together, but GTE Financial is hosting a game creation contest that combines the two. The Tampa-based credit union has announced its GTE Got Game competition, a financial game making competition for Android and/or iOS. The winner will be awarded $10,000 plus residual earnings once the app has been released to the public.

To qualify, mobile apps must be a game rather than a financial tool or personal financial manager, must be completely original and never-before published and be fully developed and functioning. Apps may be either entertaining or pragmatic in function, but must provide a clear benefit to the user, have a financial theme or component and be a suitable for GTE Financial branding and ownership.

Games are due by Nov. 21 and will be judged on creativity, ease of use, brand alignment, market differentiation, sustainability, user benefit, entertainment value, user adoption and monetization potential. Finalists also must be available to present their game to a panel of GTE judges on Dec. 10 in Tampa.

“One way we deliver on our tagline of 'Going Beyond Money' is through providing unique and innovative experiences so we're pleased to open this competition up to the public and bring something original to the mobile financial space,” Joe Brancucci, president and CEO of GTE Financial, says in a press release.

The full rules are available at gtefinancial.org/game.

GTE Financial is a financial cooperative with more than $1.7 billion in assets and 21 branches throughout west central Florida.
