TAMPA — Restaurant Business Magazine has named PDQ as the fastest-growing small chain in America on its "Future 50" list.

The magazine ranked “The Future 50” based on the change in systemwide sales from 2012 to 2013. Chains must have opened new restaurant units in 2013 to qualify and must have generated between $25 million and $50 million in systemwide sales. Chicago research firm Technomic compiled the data.

According to the ranking, PDQ had systemwide sales of $28.5 million in 2013, an increase of 288% from 2012. The Tampa-based fast-casual restaurant group had 18 total units generating an average of $2.5 million.

In addition, this week, Nation's Restaurant News named PDQ one of the 2014 Hot Concept winning brands. The magazine recognized five restaurant groups for being leading edge of foodservice. The brands will be honored at the Hot Concepts celebration, sponsored by e*Restaurant from Altametrics, during the Multi-Unit Foodservice Operators Conference this October in Dallas.

PDQ currently has 25 open restaurants and another 10 to 12 restaurants scheduled to open through the rest of 2014. The chain, which focuses on chicken, was started by Outback Steakhouse co-founder Bob Basham with Nick Reader.
