TRINITY — Prudential Tropical Realty is joining Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices. The 16-office brokerage is following many other Prudential franchises in the conversion to the new Berkshire Hathaway real estate company.

The conversion is scheduled to occur on Jan. 28 and the new name for the company will be Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Properties Group.

According to broker and owner of Prudential Tropical Realty Dewey Mitchell, when HomeServices of America Inc., an affiliate of Berkshire Hathaway, bought the parent Prudential franchise company, individual franchisees were given the option to stay with the Prudential brand until their agreements expired or convert over to Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices.

Mitchell says the combination of the Berkshire Hathaway names and a fresh new franchise made it attractive for him to switch.

“Berkshire Hathaway is one of the most respected brand names in the United States,” he says. “So you get the name with built-in stability and the brand implications from a new franchise with all new technology and fresh marketing ideas.”

The brokerage plans to have all of its art signs, stationary and website changed within the first week of the conversion. Mitchell expects that the buildings signs will follow over the next 30 to 60 days.

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Properties Group has roughly 400 residential and 35 commercial agents that cover Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando counties. The affiliated title, mortgage and property and causality insurance companies are not affected by the brand change.
