FORT MYERS — Algenol Biofuels beat 200 other companies from 25 different countries to win the 2014 Global Energy Award for Industry Leadership in Biofuels.

“The independent judges panel said Algenol Biofuels was a trailblazer, not only against its finalist peers, but in its energy sector as a whole and we congratulate the company on its win,” says Larry Neal, president of Platts, an information provider for the energy industry that sponsored the award.

Other finalists in the category included the United States Navy, Renewable Energy Group and Honeywell. Algenol officials celebrated the event at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.

Headquartered in Fort Myers, Algenol has over 200 employees commercializing its patented algae technology for production of the four most important fuels: ethanol, gasoline, jet, and diesel fuel. Algenol uses algae, sunlight, carbon dioxide and saltwater for fuel production at $1.30 per gallon.
