The building industry is a small world, especially in Collier County.

James McVey, the builder who co-founded one of the region's biggest construction firms with business partner Todd Gates, has joined PBS Construction in Naples.

Russell Budd, a longtime Naples builder, heads PBS, a firm that specializes in renovating and building luxury homes. Both Budd and Gates are alumni of Wall Systems, a drywall company in Naples.

McVey and Gates founded Gates McVey Builders in 1994, which became one of the Gulf Coast's biggest commercial builders during the real estate boom.

McVey and Gates split in 2004 and McVey started JL McVey Building Co. He ran it until 2012, when he went to work for DeAngelis Diamond Health Care Group of Naples to oversee a project in Grand Cayman.

Now McVey is back in Naples, this time with PBS. It's a small world after all.
