A matchmaking website for businesses founded by Sarasota entrepreneurs continues to seize its opportunity in the startup tech limelight.
The latest praise: Crowd-investing site AngelList ranked the company, opprtunity.com, among the top 10 hottest startups nationwide. That ranking follows several high scores from Mattermark, a venture capital research firm.
Businesses on the AngelList list include app development firms based in Atlanta, Los Angeles and San Francisco. But opprtunity.com is the only one on the list with a business model that connects and matches people with like-minded business needs with each other.
“Things are really exciting,” opprtunity.com founder Janis Krums tells Coffee Talk. “We are seeing some really good Web traffic growth.”
That traffic, adds Krums, does actual work off the matches. He's heard from several investors and executives who have closed deals and signed contracts from an opprtunity.com match. Krums, who splits his time between New York City and Sarasota, founded the firm earlier this year with fellow tech entrepreneur Bill Jula.
The company, which raised about $100,000 earlier this year, now seeks another $500,000 in venture and/or angel capital. Krums says the additional money will support two years worth of product development and marketing. He hopes to build a mobile app and eventually add other services. The site, for now, is free, but the goal is to eventually charge a subscription fee to receive multiple matches. Krums also says he will host a large introduction party in New York City for opprtunity.com in November.
