FORT MYERS — Lee Memorial Health System Foundation says it has matched billionaire Naples resident Tom Golisano's $20 million challenge grant to build a new children's hospital.

Fort Myers-based women's based retailer Chico's FAS contributed $1 million to complete the $20 million needed to receive Golisano's matching grant, the foundation says. Golisano is the founder of Paychex, and Forbes recently estimated his net worth to be $1.9 billion, placing him among the richest 400 Americans.

Lee Memorial needs to raise another $19 million to complete its goal of raising $100 million for the 128-bed hospital to be built at HealthPark Medical Center off Summerlin Road in Fort Myers. The hospital has been named after Golisano in honor of his grant.

Lee Memorial awarded the construction of the hospital to a joint venture of Swedish construction giant Skanska and Bonita Springs-based firm Gates. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring.
