TAMPA — The insurance and financial firm United Services Automobile Association (USAA) is planning to significantly increase its presence in Hillsborough County. It has announced plans to create up to 1,215 new jobs and investment $164.3 million in the area by 2019.

San Antonio-based USAA will initially lease 50,000 square feet of temporary office space at Lakeview Center, at 6700 Lakeview Drive, Tampa. It expects to construct a new, 420,000-square-foot facility at the Crosstown Center in Brandon by 2015.

The firm currently employs more than 1,800 people at its Commerce Park facility in New Tampa and has more than 600 additional employees throughout the state.

“USAA is growing as the demand for our financial products and services among the military community increases,” USAA CEO Joe Robles said. “We've had a great team of employees in Tampa for 40 years and we are excited to grow that team in this great military community.”

USAA provides insurance, banking, investment and retirement products and services to 9.8 million members of the U.S. military and their families.
