TAMPA — Pep Boys, the automotive retail chain, plans to launch its first redesigned store in the nation March 23 in Tampa. The redesign reflects a new direction for the company and aims to transform how customers experience auto service and repair, says spokesman Andrew Brudnicki.

The Philadelphia-based company will focus on providing easy-to-understand explanations of parts and repairs at the redesigned stores. Old store-length aisles will be replaced with product neighborhoods, which includes a section for organization and lifestyle products.

The new arrangement enables customers to comfortably move about the store, as well as to quickly locate products from motor oil to iPad accessories. The store will also provide an enhanced lounge for customers waiting for vehicle repairs and service. The lounge will provide free high-speed Wi-Fi access.

“The new store represents our increased commitment to providing our customers with the best experience,” says Mike Odell, Pep Boys President and CEO, in a statement. The new approach will help ease “the anxiety often associated with car repair,” says Odell.

The new Tampa store is located at 3933 W. Hillsborough Ave.
