ST. PETERSBURG — Onetime Florida gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink has joined the board of directors at C1 Bank.

The St. Petersburg-based bank, formerly Community Bank of Manatee, has been one of the fastest-growing lenders in the region the past few years. Sink is also one of several recent splashy marketing and personnel moves the bank has made. Others include becoming the official bank of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the official bank of the Outback Bowl in Tampa and a corporate partner of the Miami Heat in the NBA.

Sink, of course, comes to C1 with significant banking industry experience. She was with Bank of America for more than 25 years, including a stint where she ran Florida operations. A Hillsborough County resident, Sink was also CFO of Florida from 2007 to 2011, before she made an unsuccessful run for governor in 2010 against current Florida Gov. Rick Scott. Sink, a Democrat, is currently an adviser with Tampa-based Hyde Park Capital.

C1 Bank CEO Trevor Burgess adds that Sink, in her career, has mentored C1 President Katie Pemble and COO Rita Lowman. “Alex Sink brings a totally unique set of experience to C1 Bank's Board of Directors as we enter the next phase of growth,” Burgess says in the release. “Her history in public service and business leadership will be extremely valuable to C1 Bank and its clients.”
