TAMPA - Burger 21, owned by Tampa-based The Melting Pot Restaurants Inc., signed its first franchise agreement in Pennsylvania, making it the eighth state to house the brand. The Cranberry Township, Pa., location will be the restaurant's 25th, according to a news release.

"The success of high-end burger restaurants in Pittsburgh really got me searching for a fast-casual option with a broader menu and better environment," new franchise-owner Chad Brooks says in the release.

Brooks owns eight Qdoba restaurants in the market and has 10 years of franchise experience.

Recently, Burger 21 was listed No. 22 in Fast Casual's Top 100 “Movers and Shakers” of 2013. The distinction was granted based on its variety of innovating recipes and expansion. The brands new gluten-free menu earned the No. 1 ranking for the “Top Menu Innovations.”
