TAMPA — WellCare Health Plans named Dr. Steven Goldberg to its senior management team as chief medical officer.
Goldberg will participate in strategic planning and policy direction for WellCare (symbol: WCG; recent price: $56.81) with a “focus on ensuring high-quality, cost-effective care” for the plan's members, says a press release.
In addition, Goldberg will represent WellCare's public position on health care and medical issues with regulators, government customers, providers and trade groups. He will report to CEO Alec Cunningham.
“Dr. Goldberg has extensive experience as both a physician and a business executive,” Cunningham says in a release. “He has a solid reputation for building strong relationships across the health care system and he will be an asset in our mission to deliver quality, cost-effective health care solutions to our members and government customers.”
WellCare is a Tampa-based managed care provider.
