ESTERO — Fit2Run, a popular Bradenton-based athletic clothing and equipment chain with six locations statewide, is expanding south of Sarasota, to Coconut Point in Estero.
“It's a strategic location for us,” Fit2Run owner Bill Robinson tells the Business Observer. “We have quite a few customers from the Fort Myers area who come to the Sarasota store.”
The new Fit2Run is expected to open in March, next to the Tara Grinna swimwear store. It's one of two new stores scheduled to open soon at Coconut Point, a Simon Property Group-owned Main Street-style shopping center. The other new store, according to a release, will be Destination Maternity.
Fit2Run, says Robinson, had a “very good” 2012, and 2013 has likewise started out well. The chain's other Florida locations are spread apart. There is one store each in Gainesville, Orlando, Sarasota-Bradenton, St. Petersburg, Tampa and Wellington. The store's niche is in providing an extensive selection of footwear, apparel and home fitness gear through specially trained sales staff. The staff also tests and scans customer's feet, to perform a gait analysis and find the right shoe.
Robinson says he expects to open more stores in the future, a decision that will be based on cash flow.
