How strong is the construction rebound in the Fort Myers-Naples area?

Metrostudy, a firm that counts housing starts in master-planned communities, says home construction in the Fort Myers-Naples area rose 52.1% in the final quarter of 2012 compared with the same quarter in 2011. Builders built 625 homes in the final three months of 2012 compared with 411 four quarters earlier.

On an annual percentage-change basis, Collier showed stronger growth with a 67.1% increase in housing starts in the fourth quarter while Lee posted 41.5% growth.

Metrostudy forecasts demand will be strong this spring. As a result, lot prices will continue to rise because of dwindling supply, and builders will raise home prices.
