There's nothing like a winner to sell tickets.

The Boston Red Sox sold a record number of tickets when they went on sale Dec. 7 and set a club record. You would expect no less from the 2013 World Series champions, and it's good news for area hotels and restaurants.

Red Sox fans bought 35,211 tickets the weekend of Dec. 7. Six of the 16 games on the spring training schedule are now sold out, including standing room.

The previous record for first-weekend sales of spring training was December 2011, when the team sold 34,705. That's the year the county opened its new stadium for the team, JetBlue Park, off Daniels Parkway east of Interstate 75.
