TAMPA — CJP Columbia Properties, a local development firm run by well-known builders Charles Funk and Jeff Meehan, announced plans to build a $20 million Hampton Inn outside downtown Orlando.

Tampa-based CJP, in a release, says it will build the hotel on a 2.3-acre site on the campus of Orlando Health, a nonprofit health care network. The hotel is the first phase of a large medical office complex project the firm is also working on for Orlando Health. Hotel construction is expected to begin by mid-2013, according to the release, and be completed by mid-2014.

CJP Columbia Properties is a new venture recently formed by Funk and Meehan. The business partners and real estate investors, together and separately, have developed or managed properties worth $1.5 billion during the past 30 years, the release states. The partnership is currently developing a 456-apartment complex on 22 acres in Boynton Beach.

In 2009, the partners invested nearly $30 million in Stonelake Ranch, a high-end housing community on 690 acres in eastern Hillsborough County. For more on that project, and Funk and Meehan's strategy, click here.
