Roskamp Institute, Rock Creek reports successful anatabine study
The Roskamp Institute of Sarasota announced new research findings in a multiple sclerosis study it is performing with the Star Scientific subsidiary Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals Inc. The institute completed a successful mouse study using nutritional supplements with Rock Creek's specially formulated anatabine, an anti-inflammatory agent commonly found in tobacco plants and tomatoes.

In a report, the researchers at Roskamp describe how they assessed the effects of anatabine in the animal's diet. Mice were vaccinated with myelin, which induces a severe inflammatory process in the brain and destroys neurons causing progressive paralysis.

The anatabine dietary supplement resulted in a dramatic reduction in the rate of paralysis of hind limbs.

The preliminary data suggests the company's anatabine supplement had a beneficial effect in this simulation of multiple sclerosis.

Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals and the Roskamp Institute have worked on research relating to the company's anatabine compound for a number of years.

The Roskamp Institute previously reported a successful study in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease using a nutritional supplement with a specially formulated version of a similar anatabine, Star Scientific's Anatabloc.

Sarasota's Bill Moore named Lawyer of the Year

Legal publication Best Lawyers has named S. William, “Bill,” Moore as the “Tampa Best Lawyers Eminent Domain and Condemnation Law Lawyer of the Year” for 2012.

After more than a quarter of a century in publication, Best Lawyers is designating “Lawyers of the Year” in high-profile legal specialties in large legal communities. Only a single lawyer in each specialty in each community is being honored as the Lawyer of the Year.

Best Lawyers compiles its lists of top attorneys through peer-review surveys in which thousands of lawyers confidentially evaluate their peers. The current, 18th edition of The Best Lawyers in America (2012) is based on more than 3.9 million evaluations of lawyers by lawyers.

Lawyers of the Year need to have received high ratings for their abilities, professionalism and integrity.

Bill Moore and partners Jackson Bowman and Gregory Rix — formerly of Brigham Moore LLP— have formed a new firm with offices in Sarasota and Tampa, Moore Bowman & Rix PA.
