IMMOKALEE — Lipman, which bills itself as North America's largest tomato grower, launched a consumer website called Lipman Kitchen.

Lipman sells tomatoes to grocery and restaurant chains, but doesn't sell directly to consumers. However, Lipman launched the website because consumers increasingly want to know where and how their food is grown. “As farmers, we at Lipman think it's important to understand our consumers and to know what's important to them,” says Kent Shoemaker, CEO of Lipman.

Geared to home cooks, Lipman partnered with food bloggers to develop recipes and provide nutrition information. The website also includes a section that allows users to ask farmers questions.
