IMMOKALEE — Tomato grower Lipman says it has acquired Dallas-based Combs Produce, a fresh-produce re-packer and distributor. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Privately held Lipman, which bills itself as North America's largest tomato grower, says the acquisition is its third in six months. The Combs Produce acquisition will expand the company's reach in Texas and neighboring states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arkansas.

Founded in 1958, Combs Produce says it is the largest tomato re-packer in the Southwest region of the U.S. Lipman says it now controls a “significant percentage” of the fresh-tomato business in North America with 30 locations.
