TAMPA — The Container Store, a popular chain that sells home storage and organization products, announced a Florida expansion that includes Tampa — its first Gulf Coast location.

The Dallas-based company, founded in 1978, intends to open stores in 2013 in Tampa, Orlando and Boca Raton, according to a release published today. The retail chain, with 51 locations nationwide, currently has two other Florida stores, in Hallandale Beach and Miami.

The Tampa store, a 25,000-square-foot location, will be on Westshore Boulevard and Spruce Street, one block south of the International Plaza Mall. An official opening date hasn't been determined yet, the company says.

“The Container Store is extremely deliberate in selecting A+ real estate sites across the country surrounded by a dense population of our time-and space-starved customers,” The Container Store Chairman and CEO Kip Tindell says in a release. “We're thrilled to bring our unique concept to these three markets and are confident they will perform as top-level stores from the first day the doors open.”

Rumors of a Gulf Coast location for The Container Store have circulated for a few years. The company, with about $650 million in annual sales, offers 10,000 products that it says are designed to “solve the smallest storage solutions to the most intimidating organizational challenges.”
