NAPLES — Northern Trust named John Fumagalli president of the wealth-management firm for the state of Florida. He will oversee 22 offices.

Most recently, Fumagalli served as president and CEO of Northern Trust's Southwest Florida region and regional head of West Florida.

Fumagalli succeeds Sheldon Anderson, who announced his retirement this year. In addition, Fumagalli will continue to oversee the West Florida region until the firm names a successor.

Fumagalli joined Northern Trust in Chicago in 1989. While in Chicago, he served as the managing director of the Oak Street Financial Center and was responsible for the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Financial Center. In 2001 he was appointed president and CEO of Northern Trust in Missouri.

Fumagalli received a bachelor's degree in economics from The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He serves on foundation boards for Naples Community Hospital and Florida Gulf Coast University, the advisory board for Catholic Charities and the Saint Ann Parish Finance Council. He sits on the boards of the Community Foundation of Collier County, the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, the Naples Botanical Garden, the Forum Club and the Council of Advisors for Searching For Solutions.
