BONITA SPRINGS — WCI Communities named Keith Bass as CEO, replacing David Fry, who resigned for undisclosed personal reasons.

Bass most recently served as the president of the south region of homebuilder Ryland Homes and joined the board of directors of WCI earlier this year.

In a statement, WCI Chairman Steve Plavin says Bass will oversee the expansion of the developer and homebuilder both internally and through targeted acquisitions. “With the successful $175 million capital raise earlier this year, the company is poised to execute on strategic land acquisitions in key Florida markets,” Plavin says in a statement.

Fry steered WCI through bankruptcy reorganization in 2008 and restarted the company's homebuilding operations in the real estate recovery. No reason was given for Fry's resignation except to say it was personal and effective immediately.

WCI, now privately held, develops and builds in nine communities it has developed around the state, including in Tampa, Bradenton, Fort Myers, Bonita Springs and Naples.
