ST. PETERSBURG — Multichannel retailer HSN Inc. has appointed Karen Etzkorn chief information officer, effective Jan. 3. In the newly created role, Etzkorn will oversee all aspects of information technology, according to a statement from the company.

Etzkorn will be responsible for IT for both of the company's operating segments, HSN and Cornerstone. She will report to Judy Schmeling, executive vice president and chief financial officer of HSN Inc. (symbol: HSNI, recent price:$52.49).

“With over 25 years of technology and IT expertise in the retail space, Karen has the necessary experience to provide the strategic IT vision, direction and leadership for all our businesses,” says Schmeling.

One of Etzkorn's major tasks will be to oversee the strategic transformation of HSN's core technologies and processes, which is under way, according to the company statement. In her new role, Etzkorn will also participate in the development and execution of a technology roadmap across the company's digital platforms.

Etzkorn was previously senior vice president and CIO at Ascena Retail Inc., and has held senior technology positions at The Home Depot and Williams-Sonoma Inc., among other firms.

Based in St. Petersburg, HSN generated more than $3.2 billion in revenue in 2011, up from $3 billion in 2010.
