TAMPA — Granite Construction Inc. (symbol: GVA), a California-based firm, won a $64 million contract from the Florida Department of Transportation to widen the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway.

A 1.5-mile stretch of the Expressway will be expanded from four to six lanes. The stretch of road being worked on begins at Morgan Street, and ends at 20th Street — roughly between the Ikea Tampa store and the St. Pete Times Forum.

Construction will begin in the fourth quarter of this year, and end in the fourth quarter of 2013. Granite says two lanes of traffic will stay open at all times.

Headquartered in Watsonville, Calif., Granite generated $1.8 billion in revenues in 2010.
