Residents of Collier County pay an average of $2,318.89 in property taxes, the second-highest rate of any county in Florida, according to a new report published by Florida Tax Watch.

Pasco County residents pay about a third of that, Florida Tax Watch estimates, with $787.46 in total property tax levies per capita. That puts Pasco at 46 among the state's 67 counties.

As for other per capita property tax levies:

• Sarasota County ranks ninth in the state, at $1,664.11 per person;
• Lee County is tenth, at $1,646.49;
• Charlotte is 15th, at $1,520.80;
• Pinellas is 17th, at $1,329.63;
• Manatee is 19th, at $1,306.10; and
• Hillsborough is 26th, at $1,122.78.

Residents of Collier and Lee counties pay some of the highest taxes per capita despite having the 60th- and 58th-lowest county government millage rates. Collier residents pay the largest amount of school district levies per capita ($1,125.89).
