TALLAHASSEE -- Nearly 20,000 members of the Florida Department of Corrections will join the Teamsters Union, following a vote held this week.
The Teamsters Local 2011 referred to the vote results as “a decisive win” over the interests of two other police organizations, the Police Benevolent Association and the International Union of Police Associations.
A year ago, 1,100 Pasco County government employees joined the Teamsters. The Business Review detailed the labor union's growth in Florida in a feature story last September (see “'Virgin Territory'”, Sept. 3, 2010).
