TAMPA -- Looking to expand its operations into Pinellas County, the Bank of Tampa named Kenneth Cherven president of its Pinellas division this week.

The Bank of Tampa plans to open two new branches in Pinellas County in 2012, a release says. Cherven is charged with building a team of local bankers to staff those two locations, and to develop a new Pinellas County Adivsory Board to guide the bank's growth in the area.

Cherven is the former president and CEO of First Community Bank Corp. of America in Pinellas Park. From 1994 to 2000, he served as president and CEO of Premier Community Bank in Largo. Premier was acquired by Colonial Bank in 2000, while First Community Bank of America was acquired by Community Bank & Co. earlier this year.

All nine of the Bank of Tampa's branch locations are currently situated in Hillsborough County. The institution manages more than $1 billion in assets.
