United plans offered through GreatFlorida
United Insurance Holdings Corp. of St. Petersburg reached an agreement for agents from GreatFlorida Insurance to sell United's homeowners dwelling, fire and flood products. Founded in 1991, GreatFlorida operates a network of franchised insurance agencies with 110 offices in Florida.

United currently has policies offered at 64 GreatFlorida agencies, and expects to have its products sold in more GreatFlorida agencies by the end of the year.

“This is an exciting opportunity to reach a broader range of local Florida policy holders and continue our expansion efforts,” Don Cronin, United's CEO, says in a press release. “By adding a carrier with the experience and reputation of United, GreatFlorida's agents can continue to grow their businesses by cost-effectively offering a wider range of carrier options to their customers. We look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship in the coming years.”

United Property & Casualty Insurance Co., a subsidiary of United Insurance Holdings Corp., writes and services homeowners insurance in Florida and South Carolina and is licensed to write property and casualty insurance in Massachusetts.

Brown & Brown's Apex Insurance buys Global Intermediaries
Apex Insurance Agency Inc., a subsidiary of Tampa- and Daytona Beach-based Brown & Brown Inc., has acquired most of the assets of Global Intermediaries of Eugene LLC d/b/a Global Intermediaries.

With annual revenues of $1.3 million, Global Intermediaries is a wholesale operation that provides excess liability, worker's compensation, medical malpractice, police professional and other specialty insurance lines to self-insured public entities. The company will continue to operate from its Eugene, Ore., location, under the Apex Insurance Services name.

“Apex has had a long and successful relationship with Global Intermediaries,” Karl Snearer, president of Apex Insurance Agency, says in a press release. “We are proud to have Judd and his team joining Apex and assisting us in expanding our presence in the Pacific Northwest and western United States.”

Brown & Brown Inc. offers insurance and reinsurance products and services, as well as risk management, third-party administration, managed health care and Medicare set-aside services and programs.

Coleman Cable finishes purchase of Technology Research Corp.
Waukegan, Ill.-based Coleman Cable Inc. has completed its acquisition of Technology Research Corp., changing the company to a subsidiary of Coleman.

“Through the successful completion of this transaction, we have strengthened and diversified our portfolio,” Gary Yetman, president and CEO of Coleman, says in a press release. “TRC's sizable commercial and consumer products segment greatly broadens our current electrical products platform.”

Hyde Park Capital acted as financial adviser to Technology Research Corp., and Hill, Ward & Henderson, PA was its legal adviser.

Coleman Cable Inc. is a manufacturer of electrical and electronic wire and cable products.
