MARCO ISLAND — Collier County saw a 3.3% increase in tourist traffic in 2010 relative to the prior year, according to the Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Traffic is also up 3.3% in the first quarter of 2011 relative to the same time frame a year ago, the agency said.

The agency estimates that 1,383,500 tourists stayed in paid accommodations in Collier in 2010, generating an economic impact of $1.16 billion, and $74.6 million in additional tax receipts from sales and gasoline taxes.

Collier's tourism economy employs 29,000 people, according to the Visitors Bureau.
