LAW FIRM ON DEED: Pavese Law Firm, Fort Myers
PLANS, DESCRIPTION: Lee County purchased 218.26 acres surrounded by existing conservation land for $8.73 million.
The price equated to $40,000 per acre.
The property, east of Interstate 75 and north of State Road 82, was acquired as part of a 1,213-acre phased conservation acquisition. The county acquired the first portion, 517 acres, in May for $10.83 million. The county bought another 467 acres in Buckingham for $16.26 million in July.
While these 218.26 acres were not considered especially important for conversation, the property does connect two swaths of conservation land.
The entire 1,213-acre property was desirable as environmental land because it contains the headwaters of the Six Mile Cypress Slough. It will be used to improve the water flow to the slough. Portions of it will also likely be opened to the public for passive recreation, such as hiking, biking and walking trails.
The acquisition was funded through the Conservation 20/20 program property tax. Conservation 20/20 has made a total of 107 land purchases covering 24,039 acres.
