The Sarasota County Commission has awarded a contract to restore the southeastern portion of Palmer Point Park on the shore of Little Sarasota Bay to Tampa Contracting Services Inc. of Palmetto. The $559,650 project calls improvements to a two-acre spoil island site south of Midnight Pass.

Construction is expected to start later this month and be completed in September.

Funding was provided through grants from the Community Foundation and the Southwest Florida Water Management District, West Coast Inland Navigation District funds and the county's infrastructure surtax (penny sales tax).
