PLANS, DESCRIPTION: The Tampa Port Authority purchased a 31-acre property from Hanson Pipe & Precast LLC for $4.97 million. The price equated to $159,062 per acre.
The property, which is contiguous to Port Redwing, houses a 5,000-square-foot office building, an overhead crane and two warehouses with 64,000 square feet. The site is zoned for heavy industrial uses.
“In our long range plan it will be important for future development,” says Jim Renner, the Tampa Port Authority's real estate director. “But right now we are working on the roadway extension to the Port Redwing facility and going through the Hanson Pipe property will reduce that cost significantly.”
The extension, which includes a railway, is designed to provide a more direct connection from the port to U.S. 41. The port authority estimates the Hanson property will save the extension project $1.3 million. The port plans to lease the former Hanson Pipe facilities.
