TECO Energy profits grow

TAMPA — TECO Energy Inc. (symbol: TE) earned a net income of $56.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2010, representing a 6% boost in profits over the year. For the year, TECO earned $239.0 million in profits, up roughly 12% from 2009.

CEO John Ramil said his company saw “signs of improvement in the Florida economy” in the quarter, with strong results at each of TECO's subsidiaries, as well as continued growth in the customer base in Florida, which expanded by 0.6%.

“We are looking forward to continued solid financial performance in 2011 from gradual improvements in the Florida economy,” Ramil added.

TECO Energy contributed $40,000 to Moving Hillsborough Forward last year.
