FORT MYERS -- Southwest Airlines will begin providing nonstop service between Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) and Hartford, Conn. (BDL), as well as nonstop flights between RSW and Providence, R.I. (PVD), starting early next year, according to the Lee County Port Authority.

Southwest will initiate its new service on Sunday, Feb. 12, and will operate daily flights through Monday, April 9.

“These flights serve top markets in New England with high passenger demand to our region,” says Robert Ball, executive director of the Lee County Port Authority, in a statement.

In October, 469,145 passengers traveled through the airport located in Fort Myers, down from more than 524,000 in October 2010, a 12% decrease. In 2010, Southwest Florida International Airport served 7.5 million passengers.
