TAMPA — Tampa is a finalist for hosting the Super Bowl in 2015, according to a National Football League spokesman. It will compete with Glendale, Ariz., over the next several months, culminating with a vote at an owners' meeting in October.

Tampa was also a finalist last year, but ultimately lost the bid to New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

If Tampa were to host the 2015 game, it would mark the fifth Super Bowl to be played there. The city previously played host in 1984, 1991, 2001 and 2009. The city has been preparing for this most recent bid since last year's late loss to New Jersey (see: “Super Bowl: Try again next year”).
