TAMPA — James Shimberg is the newest city attorney for Tampa, following his appointment yesterday by new Mayor Bob Buckhorn.

Shimberg practiced law at Tampa-based Holland & Knight for 26 years prior to yesterday's appointment. While there, he specialized in real estate, land use, and residential and planned development law. At the time of his appointment, Shimberg served as practice group leader for Holland & Knight's Tampa Bay real estate group.

Shimberg will assume his new role May 2, and he will receive an annual salary of $175,000.

Holland & Knight has a history of being closely involved with Florida politics. Former gubernatorial candidate Bill McBride was once a managing partner there, and former Gov. Bob Martinez is now a part of the firm.
