NAPLES — Allen Systems Group, a Naples-based database management services firm, agreed to acquire visionapp AG, a German firm that provides users with a software platform for cloud computing.

Cloud computing allows users to store and access data remotely using an Internet connection, rather than maintaining their own physical databases on site. A popular example is Google's Gmail, which can be accessed from anywhere.

Visionapp provides cloud-computing applications to 20,000 customers, according to a statement from ASG. Visionapp CEO Juergen Gallmann said his company would benefit from ASG's global reach, a network of 65 offices across the globe.

Allen Systems Group is led by Arthur Allen. In June 2006, Allen told Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto that he would earn $500 million in profits if he took his company public. Since then, ASG earned roughly $985 million in revenues between 2006 and 2009, Allen tells the Business Review.
