Republicans who made contributions to Gov. Charlie Crist's U.S. Senate campaign may now be able to get their money back from the former Republican turned Independent — and help Crist's Republican opponent, Marco Rubio, suggests one observer.
Crist has waffled over that basic question of principle for months, but according to Red County, a conservative blog, the governor went on record in a late August CNN interview saying, “'We'll give it [campaign contributions] back to people who had asked for it. ...'”
Now, the National Republican Senatorial committee has sent a letter to Crist taking him up on his offer, and has created a Web site to help expedite the refund process.
Contributors can now go online to http://florida.nrsc.org/get-your-crist-refund/ and fill in the short form. The box that reads: “Yes! I want my donation back Charlie” is conveniently pre-checked.
The Web site notes that refund requests may also be made by snail mail by writing to: 300 Beach Drive, NE, Suite 125, St. Petersburg, FL 33701.
Red County blogger Richard Swier also offers refund seekers some free advice: “Maybe you can use the money to pay your taxes? Better yet send it to Marco Rubio who will reduce your taxes.”
