Associated Industries of Florida, a pro-business organization that monitors government activities, released its 2010 Champions of Business list.
The list recognizes 16 Florida legislators for their contributions to the state's business community. Two winners are from the Gulf Coast: Rep. Garrett Richter, R-Naples, and Rep. Will Weatherford, R-Wesley Chapel.
Richter was recognized for his work to improve the state's property insurance market, a release said. His efforts to help pass key legislation preventing industry abuse earned him his second consecutive Champions nod from AIF.
Weatherford earned recognition for his role as the primary sponsor of the “Right Size Class Size” amendment, which allows flexibility in dealing with the state's formerly rigid class size requirements.
The Champions awards stem from AIF's analysis of more than 14,000 votes cast on 133 business-related bills and amendments this past Legislative session.
