You can't blame the Bonita Bay Group for being publicity shy these days, especially when it comes to making corporate announcements.

The Bonita Springs-based residential development company has been the subject of intense scrutiny as lenders forced it to cut costs and sell off assets as the downturn hit hard. Meanwhile, the privately held firm controlled by the Lucas family sought to appease angry residents clamoring for refunds to club memberships by selling the clubs to them.

So when Brian Lucas, 36, the son of Bonita Bay Group Chairman David Lucas, was recently named president and CEO of the company, the developer didn't announce the promotion publicly.

But Brian Lucas has been taking on an increasing management role with the company in recent years. The president and CEO position had been left open since Kitty Green left the company in May 2009 and Brian Lucas was expected to fill that role.

A graduate of Canterbury High School in Fort Myers and Stetson University in DeLand, the younger Lucas joined Bonita Bay Group as vice president of business development and chief information officer in 2004, after a six-year consulting stint with Accenture.

A computer expert with a penchant for Diet Cokes, the younger Lucas started subsidiaries such as New Leaf, Bonita Bay Group's golf-course management company. In 2007, Lucas, was one of the Business Review's “40 under 40” winners.

Meanwhile, David Lucas remains chairman of Bonita Bay Group.
