Matthews, N.C.-based Family Dollar Stores Inc. is close to the start of construction on a store in Sarasota.
The discount retailer is expected to receive a site plan from the city of Sarasota July 14 to build an 8,000-square-foot store on U.S 41, in area known as the North Trail. Construction is expected to begin within days of obtaining the plan.
Family Dollar already demolished the gas station that was previously on the site, at the corner of Myrtle Street and U.S. 41.
The building will feature a metal frame with drywall interiors, a polished concrete floor and a 32-space parking lot. Construction, run by Sarasota-based Holliday Group, is expected to take three months.
Family Dollar, a Fortune 500 company, operates more than 6,700 stores in 44 states.
