After 27 years with the same law firm, it can be time to reset one's career.
That's precisely what William “Bill” Hamilton is doing, having left the comfort zone of Tampa legal powerhouse Holland & Knight to help start the newest office of Quarles & Brady.
Hamilton is one of six partners starting the Milwaukee-based firm's Tampa office on the 34th floor of the Bank of America Plaza building. The temporary offices are divided between two other floors as build-out work continues on the firm's permanent space, where three associates will also work.
“This was a sterling opportunity,” Hamilton tells Coffee Talk. The business litigation and intellectual property attorney says he was attracted to Quarles & Brady by its collegial environment and people-centered culture, adding that it is an exciting time to establish a new law office from scratch in the Tampa market.
Also joining Hamilton at Quarles & Brady are former Holland & Knight colleagues Kelli Edson and Paul Parrish, and former DLA Piper attorneys David Beyer, Christian Burden and Philip Martino. The lawyers share broad experience in such areas as bankruptcy and creditors' rights, franchising and distribution, and foreclosure and workout litigation.
“Our expansion in Florida brings a team of highly skilled attorneys to the firm,” says John W. Daniels Jr., Quarles & Brady chairman. “The new partners possess sophisticated franchise, bankruptcy and trial experience that will fill our growing client needs and complement our existing national practices.”
Quarles & Brady has one other Florida office in Naples, where it has 22 lawyers. Kimberly L. Johnson, a partner in the firm's Naples office, will serve as managing partner of the Tampa office.
