Paris company finds a home

A French medical equipment manufacturer is opening a U.S. headquarters in east Manatee County in a vote of confidence — albeit an anecdotal one — in America's current health care system.

The company, Trod Medical, manufactures Encage, a patented and Food and Drug Administration-approved device. The Encage uses radio frequency technology to heat and then correct diseased tissues in a patient's liver, prostate and kidney.

“The U.S. market is the largest market in the world for our Encage surgical device,” Trod Medical US Vice president and Chief Operating Officer Manfred Sablowski says in a statement. “This area of Florida has the infrastructure we need.”

Trod Medical's global headquarters will remain in Paris. The company intends to hire distribution and office staff early next year for its Florida office, which is in a Lakewood Ranch corporate park. The company then plans to launch a domestic sales drive for Encage early next summer.
